Soccer Game Preview: North Gaston vs. Ashbrook

The North Gaston Wildcats will challenge the Ashbrook Greenwave at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Gaston will be strutting in after a victory while Ashbrook will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, North Gaston turned things around against Huss on Thursday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Huskies a 2-0 shutout. The game was the first time North Gaston have beaten Huss on their pitch since April 29, 2022.

Meanwhile, Ashbrook fell victim to South Point and their airtight defense on Friday. They came up short against the Red Raiders, falling 9-0. While losing is never fun, Ashbrook can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 490th, while South Point are ranked 48th).

North Gaston's win bumped their record up to 4-7-2. As for Ashbrook, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9-1 record this season.

North Gaston was able to grind out a solid victory over Ashbrook in their previous matchup back in March, winning 2-0. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Greenwave have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
