Horizon strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They walked away with a 20-7 victory over the Cactus Cobras. This was payback for the Huskies, who suffered a 26-18 loss the last time these two teams met.
Horizon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jake Giraud, who picked up 95 receiving yards and two scores. Giraud got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 58 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Puma, who threw for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Horizon proved: they limited Cactus to a paltry 3.5 yards per carry. While four picked up at least four total tackles, Vedder Wolfley stood above the rest. He picked up 1.5 sacks, forced one fumble, and made four total tackles. Horizon got some further help from Wolfley: he picked up 1.5 sacks, forced one fumble, and made four total tackles.
Horizon's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Cactus, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-1.
Coming up, Horizon will take on Sunnyslope at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th. As for Cactus, they will venture away from home to face off against Peoria at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th.
