Jonathan Chapple leads a balanced attack to beat Pinole Valley

The Oakland Wildcats scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They came out on top against Pinole Valley by a score of 75-68. Given Oakland's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while Pinole Valley is ranked 578th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Oakland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jonathan Chapple led the charge by scoring 20 points. The matchup was Chapple's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Anthony Lacy, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Despite the defeat, Pinole Valley saw an underclassman step up: Jaylin Reed scored 21 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Chriseanie Nealy, who scored 19 points along with five assists.

Oakland's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.3 points per game. As for Pinole Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.
