Baseball Game Preview: Loyola Bull Dogs vs. Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy Sentinels

The Loyola Bull Dogs will square off against the Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy Sentinels at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Loyola has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy will arrive with 12 straight wins.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Loyola's offense. They lost 15-0 to Detroit Cristo Rey two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy made easy work of Perry on Friday and carried off a 9-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Sentinels, who have now won 11 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Drew Goodwin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Goodwin wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Knight, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those three hits gave Knight a new career-high. Ryan Eikey was another, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy pushed their record up to 18-2-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Loyola, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
