Soccer Game Preview: Calhoun vs. Northwest Whitfield

The Calhoun Yellow Jackets are taking a road trip to square off against the Northwest Whitfield Bruins at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Calhoun is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 10-1 margin over Ridgeland on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Meanwhile, Northwest Whitfield came tearing into Monday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.6 goals), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 7-3 victory. Given the Bruins' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Wildcats are ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northwest Whitfield's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 19 goals over those three games. As for Calhoun, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-7.

Calhoun suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Northwest Whitfield in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Calhoun was down 5-1.
