On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Boerne's defense and their five sacks. Cash Gatlin was especially locked on to Veterans Memorial's QB and sacked him twice. Gatlin has been hot, having also posted six or more total tackles the last six times he's played.
Meanwhile, McCollum was beaten by Alamo Heights 69-7 on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Cowboys in their meetings with the Mules: they've now lost four in a row.
Boerne will have to contain Dominik Zapata as he made an impact in McCollum's last game. He rushed for 113 yards and one score. That rushing touchdown marked the first that Zapata has punched in this season.
Boerne's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for McCollum, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Boerne has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 304.6 passing yards per game. It's a different story for McCollum, though, as they've been averaging only 57.8 passing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant passing game?
Everything came up roses for Boerne against McCollum in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 50-0 victory. Will the Greyhounds repeat their success, or do the Cowboys have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
