Volleyball Recap: Columbus Takes a Loss

Columbus lost against Grand Island back in October of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Discoverers took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Islanders.

While Columbus ultimately came up short, they really made Grand Island work, particularly in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 27-25, 25-13.

Paighton Erb paced Columbus' offense, picking up 12 kills. Erb got some help from Carley Kapels and her 11 assists. Kapels was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Columbus has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. Grand Island's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Columbus will take on rival Lincoln North Star at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Grand Island is set to challenge their familiar foe Omaha North at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
