The Manchester Greyhounds will take on the Fairfield Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Manchester 1.6, Fairfield 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Manchester had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Augusta on Wednesday. The Greyhounds were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over the Panthers. The Greyhounds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 11 runs or more this season.

Rylie Young and Jadelyn Conley made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Young struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Conley tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At the plate, Young scored a run while going 1-for-1, while Conley scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Bristynn McClanahan was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Peyton Hayslip, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
Manchester always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .818. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Fairfield had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 6-2.
Like Manchester, Fairfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Rilee Quickle. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Quickle was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carly Sanders, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Jobey Hattan was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Fairfield's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average this season. As for Manchester, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Manchester hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .408. However, it's not like Fairfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .370. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Manchester came up short against Fairfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 12-8. Can the Greyhounds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
