Baseball Game Preview: Newman Fighting Cardinals vs. Edgar Wildcats

Newman is 1-9 against Edgar since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Fighting Cardinals will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 4:45 p.m. Newman has given up an average of 15.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Newman is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Friday. They lost 15-5 to Phillips. On the bright side, the five- run performance marked the Fighting Cardinals' highest-scoring game to date.

Newman saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Quincy Pfender, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Edgar earned a 6-2 victory over Neillsville/Granton on Monday.

Lucas Stahnke was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, Edgar let Sawyer Weiland and Gavin Mauer run wild. Weiland went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Mauer went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs Mauer has posted since back in May of 2024. Dakota Ellenbecker also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Edgar's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-3. As for Newman, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
