Softball Recap: Alpine Bucks vs. Brownfield Cubs
With a playoff game on the line, Alpine rose to the challenge on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Brownfield Cubs with a sharp 14-5 win. Alpine might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won 16 matches by six runs or more this season.
Kody Hawkins made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single hit, only two earned runs while striking out seven over 5.1 innings pitched. Hawkins has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive pitching appearances. Hawkins was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Emyliana Hernandez was incredible, going 1-for-5 with four runs, four RBI, and a stolen base. Sierra Ruckman was another key contributor, going 1-for-3 with a home run and three runs.
