The Calais Blue Devils will face off against the Narraguagus Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Calais' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Shead with a sharp 11-0 win. Considering the Blue Devils have won three matches by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ronny Spearin was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaeson Dana, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Narraguagus put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-11 victory over Lee Academy. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Knights, who until this game were averaging 3.38 runs allowed.
Brody Robertson was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Robertson was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Narraguagus let Miles Worcester and Charles Willey run wild. Worcester went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs, while Willey got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Manny Absalom was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Narraguagus kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Narraguagus pushed their record up to 8-0 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for Calais, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Calais has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Narraguagus struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Calais might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Narraguagus when the teams last played back in April. Will the Blue Devils have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
