Recap: Southern Academy Cougars vs. Pickens Academy Pirates
The Southern Academy Cougars put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 52-25 win over Pickens Academy. That's another feather in the cap for Southern Academy, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southern Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Abby Sluder, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Sluder also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Madeline Chapman was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Southern Academy pushed their record up to 8-0 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Pickens Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southern Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Patrician Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Pickens Academy will finish 2023 at home by hosting Sparta Academy at 2:30 p.m. on December 28th. Sparta Academy's defense has only allowed 29.1 points per game this season, so Pickens Academy's offense will have their work cut out for Pickens Academy.
