Baseball Recap: Northeast's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

Northeast dropped their record down to 15-16 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Mount Juliet Golden Bears by a score of 5-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 5-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Cayden Young was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Young wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Skaggs, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Mount Juliet, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-17-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch.

On Mount Juliet's side, Matthew Dickey looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Matthew McQueary, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

Coming up, Northeast will be playing in front of their home fans against Dickson County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. Mount Juliet does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
