Basketball Recap: Boonville Pioneers vs. Mt. Vernon Wildcats

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Boonville Pioneers had no problem doing just that on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 52-28 margin over the Wildcats. The win was some much needed relief for Boonville as it spelled an end to their nine-game losing streak.

Loss or not, Mt. Vernon got some senior leadership from Arlissa Sharber and Cora Bell. Sharber scored ten points along with seven rebounds, while Bell. scored six points along with six rebounds. That was a full 35.7% of Mt. Vernon's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Boonville's win bumped their record up to 4-19. As for Mt. Vernon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-21 record this season.

Boonville won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Titans at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Gibson Southern is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 11 games. Mt. Vernon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
