Baseball Game Preview: Strasburg-Franklin Tigers vs. Buckeye Trail Warriors

The Strasburg-Franklin Tigers will venture away from home to face off against the Buckeye Trail Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Strasburg-Franklin 4.1, Buckeye Trail 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Strasburg-Franklin gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Coshocton with a sharp 12-3 win. The Tigers not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 2nd (when they won 16-0).

Bradyn Whitman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Strasburg-Franklin's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Strasburg-Franklin got a massive performance out of Brodie Hurst, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave Hurst a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Baughmam, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Strasburg-Franklin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Buckeye Trail won against Conotton Valley on Wednesday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Warriors beat Sandy Valley by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-4. The victory was familiar territory for the Warriors, who have now won three games in a row.

Strasburg-Franklin now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Buckeye Trail, their record is now 6-3.

Strasburg-Franklin came out on top in a nail-biter against Buckeye Trail in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
