Basketball Recap: Pewitt Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Wesley Smith and Wooda Betts

Pewitt was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 63-46 to the De Kalb Bears. The Brahmas were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bears earlier this season, when they won 44-36.

Pewitt's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Wooda Betts, who posted 12 points, and Wesley Smith, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was K.D. Watson, who put up seven points.

Even though they lost, Pewitt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Pewitt's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for De Kalb, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-8.

Pewitt wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 58-42 defeat against Clarksville on the 28th. As for De Kalb, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Queen City at 8:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
