The Littlefield Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Slaton Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Littlefield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
Littlefield took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over Roosevelt. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 13 matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Bryndle Ray was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Lopez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Littlefield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Roosevelt only posted an OBP of .467.
Meanwhile, Slaton narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Roosevelt 6-5. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won five in a row.
Isabella Guzman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. Guzman was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kamryn Barrera, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jessleigh Lamberson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Littlefield's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Slaton, their record now sits at 16-10.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Littlefield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. However, it's not like Slaton struggles in that department as they've averaged .421. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Littlefield was able to grind out a solid win over Slaton in their previous meeting back in March, winning 13-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
