Buena moved up to 383 from 409 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Channel. The Bulldogs climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Dos Pueblos 14-7.
Ventura added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Santa Barbara, 35-20. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Buena's dynamic duo of Martin Mijares and Mason Beling proved tough for the Chargers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Mijares threw for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns and Beling had 83 yards receiving. Tyler Harbert helped Buena's passing attack out by catching 7 balls for 80 yards.
He went 20-28 with 1 interception.
Tyler Peralta provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Ventura topped the Dons. Peralta's favorite target this week was Colby Hays, who caught 2 passes for 25 yards.
Peralta was a force in the backfield as Tim Garcia's team beat Santa Barbara.
6-foot-3 quarterback Wesley Ghan-Gibson of San Marcos is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,791. He has also thrown 15 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Blayne Bennett. The Buena star has 43 catches for 660 yards.
In 168 carries Esteban Alfaro has accumulated 943 yard this year.
The Cougars took down Doug Caines' team 35-20 last week, the largest margin of any game. Peralta ran for 266 yards in the win.
