Basketball Recap: Del Oro Takes a Loss

Del Oro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. The game between them and the Rocklin Thunder didn't end well, with the Del Oro Golden Eagles falling 70-56. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 425th, while the Thunder are ranked 83rd).

Despite the loss, Del Oro still got an impressive performance from Jayden Tcruz, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 15 points. Tcruz continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Luke Galer, who posted ten points.

Rocklin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mark Lavrenov led the charge by going 10 for 15 en route to 27 points and six rebounds. The match was Lavrenov's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Andrews, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine assists.

Del Oro's loss dropped their record down to 8-16. As for Rocklin, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.

Del Oro will challenge Folsom at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Folsom's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 20 games. As for Rocklin, they will take on Jesuit at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Rocklin comes in on six and Jesuit on three.
