Basketball Recap: Kings Christian's Run of Six Straight Victories Now Over

If Kings Christian was feeling good fresh off their 54-31 takedown of Laton on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Kings Christian Crusaders fell 44-34 to the Kennedy Thunderbirds on Saturday. The game marked the Crusaders' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the loss, Kings Christian saw an underclassman step up: freshman Andrew Ortega posted 14 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Ortega has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last seven times he's played. Russell Martin was another key player, putting up no points and four steals.

Kennedy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zikeem Dozer, who went 5 of 10 en route to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Miguel Galvan, who put up 11 points and seven boards.

Kings Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-34 victory against Wonderful College Prep Academy on the 22nd. As for Kennedy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 45-40 loss against Taft on the 21st.
