Softball Game Preview: Samuell Spartans vs. West Mesquite Wranglers

Samuell hasn't had much luck against West Mesquite recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Samuell will head out on the road to challenge West Mesquite at 6:30 p.m. Samuell has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Samuell lost 19-6 to Adams on Friday.

Meanwhile, West Mesquite waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Stallions. With that victory, the Wranglers brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Avery Cox looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Clarissa Avila was a standout: she scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged three or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoraida Barron, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

West Mesquite was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .588. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .588 or higher in three consecutive games.

Samuell's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for West Mesquite, their record now sits at 12-8.

Samuell suffered a grim 12-6 defeat to West Mesquite in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Samuell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
