Basketball Recap: Stone Comes Up Short

Stone lost against Laurel back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Stone Tomcats were beaten by the Laurel Golden Tornadoes 74-27. While losing is never fun, the Tomcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 228th, while the Golden Tornadoes are ranked 65th).

Isaiah Scarbrough was Stone's leading scorer, having posted nine points. Lathan Posey held things down on the boards with five rebounds. Cleon Johnson Jr took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.

Stone now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Laurel, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-7.

Stone wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 57-37 defeat against Gautier on the 28th. As for Laurel, they will take on East Central at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Laurel's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests.
