Soccer Game Preview: Carnegie Vanguard vs. Sharpstown

The Carnegie Vanguard Rhinos will head out on the road to square off against the Sharpstown Apollos at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Carnegie Vanguard has given up an average of 2.8 goals per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.

Carnegie Vanguard managed to slip by Waltrip the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Carnegie Vanguard lost 5-0 to Waltrip on Saturday. The Rhinos have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sharpstown hadn't beaten Galena Park on the road since March 23, 2017 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. While the 2-2 score might suggest a draw, it was Sharpstown who was credited with the win. Sharpstown got it done in the shootout by posting three goals to Galena Park's two.

Sharpstown's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-8. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored ten goals over those three contests. As for Carnegie Vanguard, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
