Basketball Recap: Hugoton Triumphs

Hugoton lost to Scott last Thursday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Hugoton Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Scott Beavers, sneaking past 59-56. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since January 19, 2024.

Scott's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jackson Rumford, who went 9 for 16 on his way to 22 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Eloy Ruelas, who posted 12 points along with eight assists and three steals.

Hugoton's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-8. As for Scott, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Hugoton Eagles duke it out with the Cimarron Bluejays at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Scott, they will venture away from home to square off against Ulysses on Friday. Scott is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.4 points per game this season.
