The Old Town Coyotes will square off against the Ellsworth Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Old Town put up the most runs they have all season on Tuesday. Everything went their way against John Bapst Memorial as they made off with a 23-2 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Coyotes sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Haley Sirois made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Emily Wheeler was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Brasslett, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple.
Old Town always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Ellsworth ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Presque Isle 13-12. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
The victory got Ellsworth back to even at 5-5. As for Old Town, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Old Town has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ellsworth struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
