Football Preview: Okemos Wolves vs. DeWitt Panthers

Okemos is 0-6 against DeWitt since September of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Okemos Wolves will square off against the DeWitt Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Okemos will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Okemos finally turned things around against Coldwater on Friday. They walked away with a 21-14 win over the Cardinals.

Okemos got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Xavier Ford out in front who picked up 100 receiving yards and a touchdown. Okemos also got a significant boost from Marshaun Hallums, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 90 yards.

Meanwhile, DeWitt put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Grand Ledge, posting a 42-0 win on the road. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won five contests by 27 points or more so far this season.

DeWitt had a senior duo take command as Elliott Larner rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries and Abram Larner gained 176 total yards and three touchdowns. Abram got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 76 yards.

DeWitt didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Justin Barkman and Larner. Larner is also on a roll when it comes to receiving touchdowns, as he's now hauled in two or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Another thorn in Grand Ledge's side was Cooper Chambers, who picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, DeWitt was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 236 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 229 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.

Okemos' victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for DeWitt, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-0.

Okemos was taken down by DeWitt 60-0 when the teams last played back in October of 2023. Can Okemos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
