Churubusco is 1-9 against Westview since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Eagles will challenge the Warriors at 1:00 p.m. Churubusco will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Churubusco will bounce into Saturday's matchup after beating Woodlan, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Warriors 5-4. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.
Churubusco got a great performance from Ethan Hartsock as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Hartsock has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Drake Richards was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Patten, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Westview made sure to put some runs up on the board against Elkhart on Tuesday. The Warriors came out on top against the Lions by a score of 12-8. The Warriors have beaten the Lions the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Lions has come to flipping the script.
Gavin Engle made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Engle was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maverick Deveau, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Westview is undefeated when Deveau posts two or more runs, but 9-11 otherwise. Jaxon Miller also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Westview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elkhart only posted a batting average of .265.
Churubusco's record now sits at 9-17. As for Westview, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Churubusco's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's matchup. The Eagles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Westview, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Churubusco continue to outrun the ball?
Churubusco couldn't quite get it done against Westview when the teams last played two weeks ago as they fell 4-1. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
