Baseball Game Preview: Patrick County Cougars vs. Glenvar Highlanders

For the first time this season, Patrick County will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Glenvar Highlanders at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Patrick County has four straight victories, Glenvar has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Patrick County is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over Martinsville on Wednesday.

Jackson Callahan was a standout: he scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Christian Hyltin was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Patrick County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Glenvar lost 9-3 to Salem on Tuesday.

Patrick County pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Glenvar, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Patrick County was able to grind out a solid win over Glenvar in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 5-0. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Highlanders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
