Softball Recap: Canton Warriors vs. Troy Trojans
Canton had lost eight straight at home, but on Monday they dropped down to 6-13 to make it nine. They lost 10-2 to the Troy Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-1 back in April.
Canton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tiffany Acla, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
As for Troy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-10. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
On Troy's side, Erinn Knapp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks. Knapp has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Troy let Maddyson Muir and Delaney Kendall run wild. Muir went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Kendall went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave Kendall a new career-high. Haidyn Watson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Canton and Troy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Warriors will challenge Wyalusing Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (420 vs. 117). Meanwhile, Troy (ranked 269th) will meet Athens (ranked 63rd) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
