AAAAA Region 1 Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Ty Jones Delivers Best Performance of Season

Lakeside came up short on Friday despite Ty Jones delivering his best game to date. Jones rushed for 203 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries, and also threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: he has now rushed for 101 or more in the last seven games he's played dating back to last season.

Unfortunately for Brunswick, this isn't the first big game they've seen from Jones. When Jones last faced the Pirates back in October of 2023, he rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, and also threw for 177 yards and a touchdown.

Grant Moore's Rushing Yards a New Career-High

On Friday, Brunswick got the W thanks in part to Grant Moore playing the best football he has all season. Moore threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns while completing 88.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process.

Moore and Brunswick will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on South Effingham at 7:30 p.m. on November 1st. The Pirates got just the result they wanted when they last faced the Mustangs, probably because Moore had a solid game then too: he threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt. Can he match (or beat) that performance?

William Heck's Big Game Leads Brunswick over Lakeside

Brunswick picked up their seventh consecutive win on Friday thanks in part to William Heck. Heck did his part (and then some), rushing for 177 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry for the 'W'.

For the year, Heck has run in 8 touchdowns while averaging 132.4 rushing yards per game. He is looking even better than he did last year: after eight games last season, he was only averaging 67.75 rushing yards per game.
