Baseball Recap: Northwest Comes Up Short

If Northwest was riding high fresh off their 20-2 takedown of Ville Platte last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Northwest came up short against the Church Point Bears on Tuesday, falling 12-1. The Raiders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Northwest saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Courtlyn Young, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Young is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

Northwest's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-17. As for Church Point, they pushed their record up to 17-7 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home.

Looking ahead, Northwest will challenge Mamou at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Church Point, they will face off against Iota at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Iota has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
