Volleyball Recap: Mount Notre Dame Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Ursuline Academy

Mount Notre Dame faced Ursuline Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Mount Notre Dame fell just short of Ursuline Academy by a score of 3-2. Mount Notre Dame was not able to repeat the success they had when they faced Ursuline Academy earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Mount Notre Dame actually scored more points across those five sets (111-106), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 17-25, 20-25, 25-21, 19-17.

Cara Richter paced Mount Notre Dame's offense, picking up 23 kills. Richter got some help from Kendall Hubbard and her 57 assists. Hubbard was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Kelsey Green had another great game (as she tends to do), getting 48 assists and 22 digs for Ursuline Academy. Those 22 digs gave Green a new career-high. Mackenzie Higgins was another key player, getting 21 digs and two assists.

Mount Notre Dame moved to 8-4 with that defeat, which also ended their four-match winning streak. As for Ursuline Academy, they pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Mount Notre Dame didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-2 loss against Loveland on the 20th. As for Ursuline Academy, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Badin on the 20th.
