Baseball Game Preview: Sierra Vista Mountain Lions vs. Desert Pines Jaguars

Sierra Vista is a perfect 5-0 against Desert Pines since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Mountain Lions are taking a road trip to challenge the Jaguars at 3:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sierra Vista has seven straight victories, Desert Pines has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Saturday, Sierra Vista got the win against Del Sol by a conclusive 16-4.

Kai Huffman looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brady Skinner was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Sierra Vista: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Owen Angelo was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Sierra Vista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Del Sol only posted an OBP of .407.

Meanwhile, Desert Pines didn't have quite enough to beat Cheyenne on Tuesday and fell 5-3.

Sibraim Sotelo-Martinez was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Ruiz Guzman, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Desert Pines' loss dropped their record down to 0-7-1. As for Sierra Vista, their record is now 12-6.

Sierra Vista took their win against Desert Pines in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 20-3 score. Do the Mountain Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Jaguars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
