Undefeated Gilman (6-0) finished the week as the No. 1 team in the country, followed by Calvert Hall (6-1) at No. 2 and St. Mary’s of Annapolis (7-1) at No. 3.

More Boys Lacrosse: Curley downs Glenelg
The Archbishop Curley boys lacrosse team won its third straight Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference game with a nail-biting 8-7 victory over rival Glenelg Country School on Thursday afternoon.
Peter Lee scored twice for the Friars, including the game-winning goal off an assist from Ben Kimbel with 3:54 left in the fourth quarter, to up Curley’s conference record to a perfect 3-0.
Kimbel finished with a goal and two assists, while Eric Seglinski and Corey Cooke scored twice each for Curley.
Will Jenkins tallied a hat trick and added an assist for Glenelg, and Bryan Arnold scored twice. Glenelg also got one goal each from Gleb Borovok and Matt Lewis.
Archbishop Curley (4-2, 3-0) will travel to South River on Tuesday, while Glenelg (2-3, 2-2) will host John Carroll.
More Boys Lacrosse: Calvert Hall captures two big conference wins
Senior attackman Patrick Fanshaw scored four goals, including two early in the pivotal fourth quarter, to lead Calvert Hall to a 12-8 victory over Boys Latin in an MIAA A Conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cardinals, ranked No. 2 nationally by LaxPower.com, overcame a two-goal deficit by scoring five goals in the third quarter and then shutting out the Lakers in the fourth quarter for the win.
In addition to Fanshaw’s four goals, Jason McFadden scored three and added an assist for Calvert Hall.
Jack Rice tallied four goals for the Lakers, which dropped its first game of the season.
Less than 24 hours after defeating Boys Latin, Calvert Hall defeated The Friends School, 19-6.
McFadden scored three times and assisted on four others, and JK Wittelsberger added three goals and an assist to push the Cardinals’ conference record to a perfect 3-0.
The Quakers were led by Ryan DeSmit’s one goal and three assists, two goals from Kurt Herzog, and one from Chris Miller. Alex Klein made 11 saves in the loss.
Calvert Hall (6-1, 3-0) will travel to McDonogh (8-2, 1-2) on Tuesday. The Eagles are coming off an upset loss to Mount St. Joseph, 10-5, on Thursday afternoon. Friends (4-3, 3-3) will have its hands full when they host two-time defending champion Loyola on Tuesday.
More Boys Lacrosse: Gilman downs Pennsylvania rival to remain unbeaten
Gilman traveled to Pennsylvania to face Malvern Prep in search of its sixth straight win of the season and rolled to a convincing 12-4 victory.
Davey Emala scored three times and had an assist, Marcus Hollman added two goals and three assists, and Greg McBride and Paul Danko each had a goal and an assist for the Greyhounds, who won for the 24th time in their past 25 games.
“We were glad to play a team of Malvern’s caliber at this point in our season,” Gilman coach Brooks Matthews said. “With that day being our bye for the league and it still being early in the MIAA season, we did not want to lose momentum. A win over a team of that quality was valuable as we try to find a groove in our MIAA schedule.”
Gilman (6-0), ranked No. 1 nationally by LaxPower.com, will look to extend its perfect record when it travels to Severn on Tuesday.
Girls Lacrosse: Mount de Sales girls defeat Mercy
Senior midfielder Jess Taylor scored a game-high four goals and added an assist to lead Mount de Sales to a 13-8 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference win over Mercy on Wednesday afternoon.
The Sailors held a slim 7-6 advantage at the half before outscoring Mercy, 6-2, after the intermission to earn their fourth conference win of the season.
Sophomore midfielder Mary Kate Fachinna and junior midfielder Maggie O’Ferrall had three goals apiece for the Sailors. Senior goalie Ali Konstantas recorded 11 saves to earn the win.
Anna Mohlhenrich scored a hat trick for Mercy.
Mount de Sales (7-2, 4-1) will travel to St. Mary’s on Tuesday afternoon. Mercy (1-5, 1-5) plays at Bryn Mawr, also on Tuesday.
Girls Basketball: St. Frances alum is top pick in WNBA draft
Former St. Frances star and Baltimore native Angel McCoughtry was selected No. 1 by the Atlanta Dream in the 2009 WNBA draft on Thursday afternoon.
McCoughtry scored 2,779 points to finish her career at Louisville as the school’s all-time leading scorer --- boys or girls. A statue of McCoughtry, to be placed outside the school’s new basketball center, is being erected in honor of her outstanding contributions during her four years at Louisville.
McCoughtry helped Louisville advance to this year’s NCAA title game, which the Cardinals lost to the University of Connecticut.
