Volleyball Recap: Elgin/Pope John Takes a Loss

Elgin/Pope John was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 3-0 to the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears.

The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 25-15, 25-14.

Braelyn Martinsen paced Elgin/Pope John's offense, picking up nine kills. Martinsen got some help from Camry Kittelson and her 11 assists. Finally, Kayton Zwingman kept Elgin/Pope John's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge found their leader in sophomore Taelynn Settje, who had six digs and two aces.

Elgin/Pope John's loss dropped their record down to 16-10. As for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 25-3.

Elgin/Pope John does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hartington-Newcastle at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
