Football Recap: Franklin Falls Short of Leominster in the Playoffs

Franklin and Leominster squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Franklin had to settle for second. They lost 42-21 to the Blue Devils.

It was another big night for Osiris Lopez, who threw for 246 yards and four TDs while completing 76.5% of his passes, and also rushed for 85 yards and one score on only 12 carries for Leominster. Lopez's passing game has become a key predictor of the Blue Devils' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. 93 of Lopez's passing yards were hauled in by Zackery Oliver, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Franklin's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-4. As for Leominster, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Franklin will venture away from home to square off against Boston College High at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Leominster, they will square off against St. John's Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
