The Dawson School Mustangs will challenge the Platte Valley Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Dawson School's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four matches.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Mustangs on Thursday. Dawson School was the clear victor by a 21-1 margin over Denver Academy. Dawson School hasn't had any issues with Denver Academy recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Dawson Kusel was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Kusel was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Dawson School's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Jaxson Wheat was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. He has become a key player for Dawson School: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Henry Cox was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Dawson School kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 11.6.
Meanwhile, Platte Valley hadn't done well against Eaton recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Broncos won by a run and slipped past the Reds 6-5.
Like Dawson School, Platte Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Hazen Weber. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Weber was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nick Silvas, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Dagan Gomez also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Dawson School now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Platte Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.
Dawson School came out on top in a nail-biter against Platte Valley in their previous meeting back in April of 2019, sneaking past 8-7. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Broncos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
