Basketball Preview: Discovery Canyon Thunder vs. Lutheran Lions
Discovery Canyon is 0-3 against the Lions since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Discovery Canyon Thunder will head out on the road to face off against the Lutheran Lions at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Discovery Canyon sitting on four straight wins and the Lions on 17.
Discovery Canyon only won by two when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 24-point they dealt the Bears on Wednesday. Discovery Canyon put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 55-31 win. The score was close at the half, but Discovery Canyon pulled away in the second half with 40 points.
Noah Eckles was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Hayden Jones, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, even though Palmer Ridge scored an imposing 60 points on Friday, Lutheran still came out on top. Lutheran walked away with a 71-60 victory over the Bears. Given Lutheran's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Bears are ranked 170th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Discovery Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Lutheran, they pushed their record up to 17-2 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home.
Discovery Canyon lost to the Lions on the road by a decisive 62-43 margin in their previous meeting back in January. Can Discovery Canyon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
