Softball Recap: Independence Comes Up Short

After flying high against Letcher County Central last Thursday, Independence came back down to earth. The Patriots fell just short of the Russell Red Devils by a score of 11-10 on Friday. The Patriots' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Emma Lilly and Ava Parks stepped up to the plate in a big way. Lilly scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Parks scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-5. Parks is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Acasia Cook, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Independence's loss dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Russell, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Independence will welcome Cranberry Area at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday. As for Russell, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Blazer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
