Baseball Game Preview: Jasper Eagles vs. Archie Whirlwinds

Jasper and Archie are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Whirlwinds at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Jasper has six straight wins, Archie has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Jasper took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Midway, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Vikings 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 9, 2024.

Treyton Ritchhart made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Earl, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, Archie fell victim to Adrian and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Blackhawks, falling 10-0.

Jasper pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Archie, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Everything went Jasper's way against Archie when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Jasper made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
