Basketball Recap: Overton Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Overton, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Memphis East Mustangs 42-40. This was payback for the Wolverines, who suffered a 60-49 loss the last time these two teams met.

Overton found their leader in sophomore Kierra Baldwin, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Dallas McElroy, who posted eight points and five steals.

Overton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Memphis East's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Cleaves, who had three points and six steals. Those six steals gave Cleaves a new career-high. Jaya Chalmers also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Overton's record is now 12-6. As for Memphis East, they moved to 12-5 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Overton has already played their next match, a 76-23 win against Kingsbury on the 31st. As for Memphis East, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 78-73 victory against Whitehaven on the 31st.
