Basketball Recap: Greeley Central Skates Past Wellington with Ease

Greeley Central had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They took their match on Friday with ease, bagging a 76-43 win over the Wellington Eagles. The Wildcats' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Leading Greeley Central to victory were Daniel Martinez and Neamiah Carrillo. Martinez went 11 of 16 on his way to 28 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals, while Carrillo went 8 for 12 en route to 25 points in addition to eight assists and seven boards. With that strong performance, Martinez is now averaging an impressive 15.6 points per game. Asher Mcdougal was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to five boards and three steals.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Greeley Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wellington only racked up nine assists.

When it comes to explaining why Wellington lost, don't look at Luke Moore. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Moore a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Nathan Blehm, who posted eight points.

Greeley Central's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-6. As for Wellington, they are on a 29-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Greeley Central has already played their next game, a 62-49 win against Northridge on the 14th. As for Wellington, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-23 defeat against Mountain View on the 14th.
