Softball Recap: Redmond Wins High-Profile Match Against Issaquah

Redmond faced Issaquah in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Mustangs narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Eagles 5-4. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 17-10 win the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Ainsley Barcalow spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maggie Enich, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Kati Cygan was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Redmond hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.

Redmond's victory bumped their record up to 9-1-1. As for Issaquah, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Redmond will head out to face off against Bothell at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Issaquah, they will face off against Eastlake at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolves have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
