Basketball Recap: Leadore Takes a Loss

Leadore lost against Watersprings back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Leadore Mustangs were beaten by Watersprings 65-37. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while Watersprings are ranked 29th).

Despite the defeat, Leadore saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Porter Mayo posted 13 points and four steals. Mayo has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Jared Ramsey was another key player, putting up eight points and five rebounds.

Watersprings' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Korban Nelson led the charge by going 6 of 13 en route to 15 points along with five boards and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Demkowicz, who put up ten points and three steals.

Leadore dropped their record down to 4-8 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Watersprings, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.

Leadore has already played their next matchup, a 71-35 defeat against Challis on the 21st. As for Watersprings, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-47 victory against Rockland on the 21st.
