Softball Recap: Independence's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Independence strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Trinity Trojans a 21-0 shutout. The Blue Devils' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Rabecca Gibson made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Independence got a massive performance out of Genna Gallucci, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Those two doubles gave Gallucci a new career-high. Macey McGhee was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2.

Independence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Independence's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0.

Looking ahead, Independence will square off against Ellet at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Blue Devils 3.2, the Orangemen 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Trinity, they will host Cuyahoga Heights at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
