Basketball Recap: Air Academy Beats Cheyenne Mountain for Their 20th Straight Win

Air Academy put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed past the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks to the tune of 61-27. The Kadets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 games by 24 points or more this season.

Leading Air Academy to victory were Tatyonna Brown and Lydia Flowers. Brown went 10-for-18 on her way to 23 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Flowers went 8-for-16 to rack up 17 points in addition to six boards and five assists. Flowers is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in each of the last three games she's played. Madeline Pool also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steals of the season.

Air Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Cheyenne Mountain still got an impressive performance from Brooke Kelly, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds. Kelly is becoming a predictor of Cheyenne Mountain's success: when she posts at least ten boards the team is 4-1 (and 3-12 when she doesn't).

Air Academy pushed their record up to 20-0 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points over those games. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13.

Air Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 69-25 win against Palmer Ridge on the 13th. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-46 victory against Discovery Canyon on the 13th.
