Baseball Recap: DeKalb Takes a Loss

DeKalb extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 19-6 in the process. They fell 5-0 to the Pendleton Heights Arabians. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Arabians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 on Saturday.

As for Pendleton Heights, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.

For Pendleton Heights' part, Colin Axel-Adams made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Axel-Adams has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Rylan Keesling was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Mazon Saxon was another key player, earning one run and two stolen bases.

DeKalb and Pendleton Heights are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Barons will challenge Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (DeKalb 2.9, the Saints 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Pendleton Heights, they will take on Anderson at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last four games the Indians have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
