Recap: Shawnee Mission East Lancers vs. Rockhurst Hawklets
After flying high against the Valley Center Hornets last Saturday, the Shawnee Mission East Lancers came back down to earth. Shawnee Mission East took a 66-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Rockhurst on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Shawnee Mission East came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 14th in Kansas, while Rockhurst is ranked 61st in Missouri).
Rockhurst's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kevin Sullivan led the charge by scoring 13 points along with three steals and three blocks. Brady Maher was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Shawnee Mission East's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Rockhurst, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shawnee Mission East will take on Gardner-Edgerton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rockhurst will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against St. James Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th.
