Softball Game Preview: Altoona Mountain Lions vs. Cumberland Valley Eagles

Altoona is 0-8 against Cumberland Valley since April of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Mountain Lions will square off against the Eagles at 2:00 p.m. Altoona has given up an average of 10.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Altoona is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Monday. They lost 16-1 to Chambersburg.

Kaya Sprankle made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

Cumberland Valley came out on top against Hazleton Area on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Cougars. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.

Cumberland Valley pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Altoona, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.

Altoona suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Cumberland Valley in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Mountain Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
