Baseball Recap: Hammond Central Comes Up Short

Hammond Central was the 10-0 winner over Lake Station Edison when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Wolves fell just short of the Fighting Eagles by a score of 7-6 on Thursday. The Wolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Christopher Buckley stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Hammond Central is 2-1 when Buckley posts three or more hits, but 7-16-1 otherwise. Juan Magallanes was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Hammond Central's defeat dropped their record down to 9-17-1. As for Lake Station Edison, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-12.

Looking ahead, Hammond Central will square off against Hammond Academy of Science & Tech at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Lake Station Edison, they will take on Gary West Side at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
